About Robocon

Robocon, short for Robotic Contest, is an interesting game - cum - intellectual exercise for budding engineers and their enthusiastic instructors, determined to innovate and create machines for producing desired results.




Participation in this activity is an end - to - end competitive experience. It demands all round skills from concept designing and simulation to actual hardware mechanical implementation and software programming. It involves participation of students from almost all branches viz. Mechanical, Computer, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication and Electrical etc. The machines (Robots) to be made should be according to rules of the game played on a high precision technical Contest Area (Arena) and to score a victory beating the competitors according to a Theme declared by the Host Country.

The Asia Pacific Robot contest (also known as Robocon) is an Asian Oceanian college robot competition founded in 2002 by Asian Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). That is why this event is also called as ABU ROBOCON contest. In this competition, robots compete to complete a task within a set period of time. Many teams of many countries participate in this auspicious tournament. The event telecasts in many countries through ABU member broadcasters. In India the live telecast of tournament telecasts on Doordarshan National channel.



Every year, different countries host this event. These host countries decide a theme on which robots has to be made along with strict rules and regulations. To decide India’s participation internationally in such event, Doordarshan-MIT AOE is organizing the national Robocon contest in which all colleges from rural and urban India fight to learn and gain knowledge. The winner team of national Robocon contest qualifies for international event.

Vadodara Institute of Engineering made its debut in 2013. The theme of Robocon 2013 was “The Green Planet”. The national Robocon 2013 was held at Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), Pune. Around 80 engineering colleges from across India, including VIER had participated in this competition. The team VIER could not make up to victory but had brought immense knowledge back. Vadodara Institute of Engineering became the only college of entire Vadodara and Panchmahal districts which attended the grandeur of grand Robocon!!
